I took a picture of ostriches in South Africa. It's been a busy few weeks, working with people in very different industries in North America, Europe and Africa (with several of my teammates working in Asia as well). One thing that is obvious is that all of us business development people are in the same boat - people all over the world are trying to commoditize us like never before. One of the most important things we can do is recognize this, and see what's happening. We can't afford to put our heads in the sand and hope that things go back to the way they used to be. Instead, we have to have our eyes open and see what's happening around us. Once we do this, we can figure out a strategy and approach that can work. We can get to decision makers and position our value and gain commitment and win without getting commoditized. That's what we love about this job!
